The Relationship Between Subjective Cognitive Decline and Objective Cognitive Performance Measures

Better Brain Health: Understanding Early Memory Changes

Many people worry about memory changes as they get older, but standard tests don’t always pick up early signs of decline. This research explores how people’s own experiences of memory issues—known as subjective cognitive decline (SCD)—relate to actual brain function. We are studying adults aged 36 and over, comparing those with no concerns, those who feel their memory is slipping, and those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Using brainwave recordings (EEG) and standard memory tests, we hope to find new ways to detect early changes in brain health. The goal is to improve early screening tools so that people can get support and take action before serious memory problems develop.
